Safeguarding

Safety and Wellbeing

At Downham Town FC, the safety and wellbeing of every child and adult at risk involved in our club is our highest priority. We are fully committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and positive environment where everyone can enjoy football free from abuse, harm, discrimination, or neglect.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding

Downham Town FC recognises its moral and legal responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and adults at risk. We believe that:
        •       Every child and adult at risk has the right to feel safe and be protected from harm.
        •       The welfare of the child is paramount in all circumstances.
        •       All participants, regardless of age, gender, disability, race, faith, sexual orientation, or background, deserve equal protection.
        •       Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

We adopt and adhere to The FA’s safeguarding policies, procedures, and best practice guidance, ensuring our club meets the highest standards of care and protection.

Creating a Safe Environment

To ensure a safe and supportive environment, we:
        •       Appoint a designated Club Welfare Officer who is the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.
        •       Ensure all relevant coaches, volunteers, and staff complete appropriate safeguarding training.
        •       Require all eligible volunteers and staff to undergo Enhanced DBS checks.
        •       Promote clear codes of conduct for players, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators.
        •       Respond promptly, appropriately, and confidentially to any concerns or allegations.

We foster a culture where children and vulnerable adults feel listened to, valued, and respected. We encourage open communication and make it clear that any concerns will be taken seriously and handled sensitively.

Reporting a Concern

If you have a concern about the welfare of a child or adult at risk at our club, please contact our Club Welfare Officer immediately. All concerns will be treated in confidence and dealt with in line with FA safeguarding procedures.

If you believe a child or adult is at immediate risk of harm, please contact the police or your local safeguarding authority without delay.

Working Together

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. We expect all members, parents, carers, volunteers, and supporters to uphold our safeguarding values and help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

By working together, we can ensure that Downham Town FC remains a place where children and adults at risk can develop their skills, build confidence, make friends, and enjoy football in a safe and positive setting.
